16 August 2018, Johannesburg – Yet again, the Department of Energy has missed the deadline they had set for the release of the final Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) by the middle of August.

We have had three successive energy ministers [1] in just over a year and a half, and each new minister has made very convincing promises to release the IRP, with no result, to date. It seems like Minister Jeff Radebe is at risk of being the latest Minister who is unable to deliver the plan.

The importance of the country’s future electricity plan cannot be underestimated: it is critical to provide policy certainty and set our pathway to future electricity investments. Greenpeace Africa really wants to know what the problem is?! If we all agree that it is so important, then the question is: Jeff, where is the IRP?
